Is it ever okay for the recovering addict to take pain medication? Even if the addict is prescribed pain medication (narcotics) and takes them as prescribed it could pose a danger of relapse.

Relapsing is quite common for the newly clean and sober. So, at what point is it okay to take legally prescribed pain medication, if ever?
